Scammers posing as Sheriff’s Office asks for Bitcoin

MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - Citizens are advised to beware of scam calls claiming to be a Sergeant Ryan Summers from the Ward County Sheriff’s Department.
Officers said the scammer claimed the citizen had failed to show up for jury duty and now a warrant for arrest has been issued.
The scammer was telling citizens to get Bitcoin to pay for the bond.
The Sheriff’s Office urged citizens to not provide any personal information to anyone over the phone that may be suspicious.
Officers will never ask for any type of payment over the phone.
To report any suspicious activity, call the Ward County Sheriff’s Department or your local law enforcement.
