WINDOM, Minn. (KEYC) - Two months ago, a bitcoin mining company, proposed a new facility just outside of Windom.

But the plan caused an uproar among those who lived in the area.

“It would’ve been in my front yard, and based on my research that we did in our group of concerned citizens, the noise would have been relentless in my house 24/7, 365,” said Char Woizeschke.

Now, they’ve withdrawn their request - in part because the county asked them to fill out an Environmental Assessment Worksheet.

“They kind of said, no, we’d rather not do it, they thought it would be simpler to work with the city instead of the county,” said Norm Holmen, a Cottonwood County commissioner.

The issue is now out of the county’s hands - but now it has moved to the city of Windom, as Revolve Labs still wants to put their facility in the area.

“I’m not glad it’s happening at all in Windom, because wherever it goes they’re going to have the same problem with noise,” said Jay Kapfer.

Several residents say they have done research on the subject, as far as traveling up to Glencoe to see the mining facility there, which is owned by the same company.

“It’s very loud, it’s not tolerable,” said Woizeschke. “I don’t think it’s a business that should be built in a city, with residents close. I know that the Revolve Lab is looking for places that have cheap electricity, but at what price to the citizens’ health?”

While Windom’s residents are happy the facility will not be set up in rural areas, they say the issue is far from over.

“In the long run, it’s not a good deal for the citizens, it’s not going to be good for anyone because of the noise,” said Kapfer.

We reached out to Revolv Labs for a comment, but did not hear back in time for this story.
